FIBERS AND TEXTILES COMPANY GASTONIA PLANT MAY. 1991 VOL. 4. NO. 9 PLANT MANAGER’S MESSAGE By: J. Anand The latest forecast from Akron regarding tire sales for the balance of this year is lower than previously anticipated. All tire plants are facing shutdown weeks and/or cuts in daily production schedule. Naturally this will have a severe affect on our operation as well. We are currently planning to shutdown a major portion of the Gastonia operations the week of May 27th. Other shutdowns or cutbacks will also be necessary in the following months In reviewing the plant operations I am very pleased with the progress made in twisting in reduction of bad work, reduction of rework inventory and the training being done in the reclaim area. Although our waste was high in March and April, the trend in May is very encouraging. We have ordered two more Dornier looms which will be delivered in July. There are orders for these looms and this should add to our profitability. In the meantime our Industrial Fabrics area has been working six days per week. The hard work of the people in this area is appreciated. PARTNERSHIP UPDATE The Partnership Council is currently meeting with each siibcommittee to help enhance two-way communication on current problems or issues in process. The council is working on a project in the reclaiming area of Twisting, coordinated by JOHNETTE MITCHELL and SHIRLEY HUGHES. Both JOHNETTE and SHIRLEY appreciate all of the assistance and cooperation they have received from ELAINE DAVIS and all the reclaim ladies.
